This aromatic black tea is a delicious twist on a timeless classic. It’s made with the Tie Guan Yin cultivar, which is otherwise known as ‘Iron Buddha’, an ancient and popular oolong tea with an international reputation. Tie Guan Yin is named after a legend, in which a tea bush is gifted to a particularly conscientious farmer by the the Buddha himself. In his home town of Anxi County in Fujian, the farmer wisely marketed his tea as ‘Iron Buddha’. From here, word of the delectable new tea spread throughout China, first passing through the Fujian province county of Shou Ning, where our tasty red variant is now grown.

Red Guan Yin uses the same uniquely aromatic tea, but is processed differently, producing a mass of dark, neatly twisted leaves which brew to a copper red liquor. The fermentation of the leaves follows a process not dissimilar to the one of WuYi rock oolongs, but the use of Tie Guan Yin cultivar releases a rather unexpected set of flavours. This tea is a great choice for those who are after a bold and fragrant oolong that is made with a little innovative flair.
